This makes it an ideal base from which to visit the region. It is situated approximately 80 km north of Wagga Wagga in the South West (Riverina) of New South Wales. Canberra is two hours drive to the east, with Griffith a 1.5 hour drive to the west.
Temora Shire includes the town of Temora, and villages of Ariah Park and Springdale. It outreaches to other small communities outside the Shire boundary.
With a strong retail trade sector and an active business community, many visitors are surprised at the variety of shopping within the town. The diversity and strength of agriculture is the foundation of the local economy.
Temora Shire is strategically positioned in the heart of the State’s rich sheep-wheat belt. The town is regarded as one of the safest agricultural areas of New South Wales.
In recent times Temora has become a hugely important centre for aviation. It has both the Temora Aviation Museum and the Aircraft Showcase Programs. The Air shows occur regularly and are an opportunity to see the museum’s historic planes flown.
Temora Aviation Museum
Visit the excellent Temora Aviation Museum to see the only two flying Spitfires in Australia, plus the world’s only flying Gloster Meteor F8. Also at the museum is a WWII CA-13 Boomerang, the only fully Australian designed and built fighter plane to be produced, and a Hudson Bomber from 1939.
Enjoy spectacular weekend flying displays of ex-military aircraft throughout the year at the Temora Aerodrome, next to the museum. The magnificent Warbirds Downunder Airshow is held here every two years in October.
