Renmark SA

Renmark, located on the Murray River, is a prosperous town in the heart of rich Riverland area. Grown here are limes, olives, apricots, grapes, plums, garlic and oranges. Like so many towns in the area Renmark is characterised by wide streets and handsome riverbank parklands. It is possible to enjoy the majesty of the Murray by hiring a bicycle and cycling along the riverbank. Also hiring a canoe or kayak and paddling along the river; or visiting the historic boats – the PS Industry and Argo Barge – moored at the river’s edge.

The first houseboats launched on the Murray River in 1961. Liba Liba, Houseboats are one of the several houseboat fleets based in Renmark. They make it easy to hire a floating palace and explore this section of the river by boat.

If you’re looking to get active on the water pedal boats, dinghies, canoes and kayaks are all available for hire. However if you’re after a ski boat and equipment it’s always best to bring your own.

The Renmark Riverfront Caravan Park and the Renmark Riverbend Caravan Park are popular family spots. Waterskiing is available in summer and they’re perfect locations for peaceful holidays all year round.

Take in a movie or a live performance at the celebrated Chaffey Theatre while enjoying your stay. Or ride on the historic paddle-steamer PS Industry when it fires up on the first Sunday of each month. There are scheduled unique day trips upstream to Wilkadene Woolshed Brewery.

The five-kilometre Renmark Riverfront Town Heritage Walk, also suitable to cycle, interprets historical information about the town and Murray River. This passes the beautiful riverfront esplanade where at dusk a family of possums emerge. There is a number of other walking and bike trails available in the area, with one taking you across the historic Paringa bridge.

Renmark is located 258 km north east of Adelaide, 139 km west of Mildura and 20 metres above sea level.

Origin of Name

It is said that the word “Renmark” is derived from the local Aboriginal word meaning “red mud”.
