The Normanton Airport in QLD is located on Airport Road, and operates from Monday to Friday. Flights to locations available from the Normanton Airport include Cairns, Burketown, Doomadgee and Mount Isa.
Normanton is a unique port and outback town on the Norman River. It is a genuinely delightful town with an excess of old world charm. It started life as a port for the Gulf of Carpentaria’s cattle industry and grew in importance with the discovery of gold at Croydon in 1885.
The civil landing area just south of the town and adjacent the isolated railway line to Croydon was sufficient for incidental RAAF communications traffic that used it. Plans were prepared and commenced in 1944 for properly constructed runways and that work further upgraded is the Normanton Airport of today.
