Meningie South Australia Country Airstrips Australia

Meningie South Australia is set on the shores of Lake Albert, and is known as the northern gateway to the Coorong. Stroll along the foreshore of Lake Albert, swim, fish or relax and take in the fabulous sunsets. Meningie also boasts a pleasant playground and barbecue area at the Meningie Lions Jubilee Park, and a range of accommodation offerings.

A large number of parks beside the lake, the reeds and the large numbers of birds, all combine to make it a town of particular beauty.

As a holiday destination, it is popular with visitors who enjoy fishing, boating, water skiing, bushwalking and generally relaxing in a peaceful and attractive lakeside environment.

A short walk to Meningie Hill Lookout provides uninterrupted views of Lake Albert and surrounding properties. The Wetland Bird Sanctuary serves as a haven for many of the birds seen in the Coorong, providing unrestricted viewing.

For all things culinary, be sure to bring a healthy appetite, the famous Coorong Mullet is served in a variety of ways at many of the local eateries!

The Pelican Path (Yunti Ngopun Ngami – the Ngarrindjeri phrase for ‘Together We Walk’) captures the 400 metres interpretive path along the waterfront which highlights European, Aboriginal and environmental history of the Meningie region, basket weaving and fish trap inlays and architecturally designed viewing platforms.

While strolling down the waterfront you’ll see the iconic Birdman Ostrich sculpture – it’s for you to sit on and take a photo!

Blessed with a natural beauty, Meningie is a charming year-round holiday destination, and is an easy 90 minute drive south east of Adelaide on National Highway One which provides a great base from which to explore the wonders of the Coorong.

Meningie boasts a range of accommodation styles to suit all tastes and budgets.
