Louth Airfield in NSW has its own sealed airstrip with plenty of tie-down area, and operator Bourke Shire Council (02 6872 2055) won’t charge you a landing fee. It’s also a walkable one km from town.
The village of Louth (don’t blink, warn the 30 locals) is situated on the banks of the Darling River 100km SW of Bourke and 132km NW of Cobar. It is often referred to as ‘Louth on the Darling’ as it sits on the banks of the Darling River in western New South Wales. But on a particular Saturday in early August every year, things hot up.
The local races, the Louth Races, is a very popular event, particularly for pilots who choose to fly in for the colourful event.
