The Cressy Aerodrome in VIC is located right beside the Hamilton Highway and the railway line that runs from Geelong to Hamilton.
At the outbreak of World War II, an airfield was constructed beside the little town of Cressy, and was used by the RAAF until 1946, as a combat training base. Established as a site for training and operational units to improve their prowess for operational missions, Cressy was the home of the Armament Training Station from July 1939 until April 1942. In 1943 the Central Gunnery School moved to the base, training air gunners until the conclusion of World War II resulted in the closure of the base.
Today this quaint little rural town is seeing the old-World War Two RAAF base coming to life. A new hanger now sits on the site where one of the original WW2 Bellman Hangers once stood.
