Cobden VIC

Cobden in VIC is located 208 kilometres southwest of Melbourne. The area is central to the countryside’s rich farming land and well-known attractions.

Part of the reason for the rich soil that surrounds Cobden is its convenient location. It is on the southern border of the Lakes and Craters Country, the fourth largest volcanic plain in the world. Though the volcanoes are dormant, the ash they once spewed has enriched the soil greatly.

Cobden is situated just minutes south of the Princes Highway at Camperdown, and 30 minutes north of the Great Ocean Road. Friendly locals, community spirit and many accommodation options make it the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding sites.

The chief appeal of the area lies to the south of the town. Here the famous Twelve Apostles and the Great Ocean Road are major tourist attractions.

Walk with Wildlife Tour

While in the Cobden area, consider a 75-minute walk with a conservationist guide along a 1.4km all-abilities path. Your guide will lead you through environments including grassland, forests, bush land and tree fern gullies. You will spot unique wildlife along the way. And you will learn about the ecology of the spectacular Otways and the research protecting the Great Ocean Road’s threatened species.

During your tour, you will pause at the Conservation Ecology Centre Research Hub. Here you’ll learn about the conservation projects that Wildlife Wonders is supporting and see research techniques in action. Before or after your tour, you can relax in the cafe and enjoy a light lunch and refreshments. Then browse the gift shop to pick up a memento of your visit.
