Fantastic lunch at White Gum Park – a great day trip. The perfect quick getaway from Perth
The weather was good, the plane was ready so we decided to get away for a lovely lunch. We didn’t have a lot of time so decided to head for White Gum Park, an easy 30-minute (63 NM) flight from Serpentine.
White Gum Park is situated just east of York, in Western Australia. The Park is relatively new, and has great facilities. The Air Park shares the benefits of White Gum Farm and includes:
– the Flight Training Facility,
– Short Term Accommodation,
– Caravan & Camping Park,
– Lake Kimberley Bar & Grill.
I hope you’re hungry, the meals are massive!
The day we visited we had just one goal in mind – lunch! Being a Friday the Lake Kimberley Bar and Grill wasn’t busy and so the delicious meal and coffee didn’t take long to arrive. It’s always a bonus being able to fly to a location and then walk to lunch. At White Gum, the walk is very short!
After lunch we took a walk around the lovely outdoor area that overlooks the lake. What a beautiful spot.
Flying back to Serpentine
It was an interesting flight back to Serpentine. Although Perth had a reasonably wet winter, the land we flew over was dry and brown. Spring was mostly dry and quite warm, and although we have had a few days of rain recently, much of the areas we flew over will only become drier as the summer heat sets in.
A Great Day Trip
We found White Gum Park to be a great destination for a day trip from Perth (Serpentine or Jandakot), for the following reasons:
- A quick and easy flight – 30 minutes
- Great restaurant a few steps from your plane.
- Very friendly staff
- Some aviation history to explore – Pratt and Whitney JD8 engine, a Russian MIG and a Boeing 737
