Soon to fail, beef cattle were introduced and later, dairy and cotton took hold. Based on the success of these industries, a make-shift town sprang up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, the town is home to a sizable squab industry, providing Australia with 60 per cent of its squab supplies. As you travel through the district, you\u2019ll see large paddocks of sorghum, wheat, sunflower, barley and mung bean crops, the mainstays of local food production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thangool Racing Club<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"415\" data-src=\"https:\/\/countryairstrips.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/ThangoolRacesQLD.jpg\" alt=\"Thangool Race Club. Racing facilities at Forde Park comprise a grass track, betting and TAB facilities, SKY Channel, bookmakers, canteen, public bar set on an elevated mound overlooking the home straight and table and marque areas among the green lawns. Formed by volcanic activity 20-26 million years ago, this volcanic plug features large vertical and semi-vertical pillars or columns, blunt at the top as if they\u2019d been cropped.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still standing tall after 25 million years, Mount Scoria\u2019s exceptional staying power is due to the hard volcanic rock at its core, exposed only after the softer surface had weathered away. The dramatic, columns are the result of the cooling process. The six-sided columns cooled slowly and evenly, while the five, seven, or eight-sided columns cooled much faster and erratically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have a bush picnic, go birdwatching or simply enjoy the park\u2019s wildlife. Then head off to explore the mountain from its base. A walking track with information signs at the mountain\u2019s base offers great views of the mountain and gives insight into Mount Scoria\u2019s significance to the Gangulu people.
